We are having our campout this month at Village Creek State Park October 19-21. We will be canoeing on a calm section of creek, so it should not be too difficult for our Scouts.
We will meet at New Hope Lutheran Church at 6 pm on Friday Oct 19 and leave by 7pm. The drive time is approximately 2.5 hours, so all Scouts need to eat before they come and/or bring dinner with them. We will canoe 6 miles on Saturday, stopping for lunch on a sandbar midway. Sunday we will arrive back at the church at 1pm.
All attendees must have a current health form (Parts A,B and a physical) on file with the troop. Also, anyone who has not completed the BSA swim test should do so before the trip. Contact me if this applies to you.

A few reminders:
Eat before you come on Friday night or bring sack lunch with you.
We meet at 6 pm at NHLC and depart no later than 7 pm. Will return to NHLC on Sunday around 12:30 pm. Parents can pick up at 1 pm after we have put everything away and assigned gear out for cleaning.
Items to bring:
– wide brim hat
– sunblock
– bug spray
– dry container or bag for carrying personal gear in canoe
– water shoes or old pair of tennis shoes
– water clothes for canoeing
– waterproof camera if you have one
– sunglasses
– extra change of clothes for Saturday after canoeing
– Class A uniform for drive there and back ( required)
– sleeping bag
– pillow
– mess kit
– towel
– other normal camping gear
If you need to send medication with your son please put in a ziploc bag with instructions and medication form giving us permission to administer with specific directions.
All canoes, PFD’s, paddles, etc are provided by the outfitter, so just bring yourself and above items.

Directions:
I-10 to Beaumont. From Beaumont, take U.S. Highway 69/96 North and take the Mitchell Road exit onto Mitchell Road (just before the U.S. Highway 69/96 split). Go approximately 0.4 miles on the access road and turn east (right) onto Mitchell Road. Then turn immediately north (left) onto FM 3513 (Village Creek Parkway). Go approximately 2 miles and turn east (right) on Alma Drive. Cross the railroad tracks (veer to the left) and continue 0.5 miles to the park entrance.
